TAE RAK STAGE 2
Update: 3rd September 2026
You may have seen (and heard….) construction works taking place at Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre and Café over the past couple of months.
$7M of funding was received from Regional Development Victoria in 2022 to build stage 2 of the Visitor Experience at Tae Rak. We are excited to see progress take shape out on the landscape as part of the second stage to improve and strengthen facilities at Tae Rak, with works set to deliver upgraded visitor facilities, improved accessibility, new gathering spaces, enhanced landscaping, and infrastructure to support cultural, educational and community use.
Under the steady guidance of project manager Accuraco, everything is on track with Nicholson Construction’s quality workmanship, construction is set to be completed in late December 2026.
Work completed so far includes the upgraded wastewater system, planning works for the Solar and Battery upgrade, with the next focus on the internal framing of the building with the flooring completed with underfloor services rough in complete. A majority of the stud walls have been erected and wrapped, the Kangaroo lawn and soft landscaping to commence early September.
An information sign has now been erected at the site to share what works will take place.
Keep an eye out for the GMTOAC newsletter sent out via mail for a Gunditjmara’s Kid’s artwork activity to capture their favourite part of Gunditjmara Mirring (Country). Artworks will be incorporated into the design around the amphitheatre with submissions due 21 September.
Feel free to pop out to the café, join a tour or enjoy a coffee and see the works taking place.
